Review: Cleopatra Clit Jewellery

Clitoral clamps are something I’d previously never really been interested in, so this review is completely new territory for me!

I adore nipple clamps but I like them because they really fucking hurt. The thought of something pinching or trapping my clit, on the other hand, never appealed to me in the slightest. Just… nope. However, with kinky toys increasing in popularity thanks to a certain book and film franchise, I was feeling like expanding my horizons and so accepted Überkinky’s offer to review this item.

The Cleopatra Clit Jewellery comes packaged in a small plastic clamshell displaying the product, along with a very graphic image of a nude model squatting while wearing the clit clip. While the image is very explicit, it is also quite soft and sensual and so not a complete turn off for me, plus it also gives you an idea of how the clip is designed to be worn.

clitclampThe body of the clip is made from some sort of metal while the beads are clear ABS plastic, so in theory it can be cleaned with a good quality toy cleaner or a little rubbing alcohol. The packaging claims the metal is nickel free and non-tarnishing. The product page over on Überkinky shows the clip as being silver in colour whereas the one I received is actually gold. I don’t know what it is plated with but if you have metal allergies then I’d probably err on the side of caution, just in case. The plastic beads are not of the best quality and appear a little cloudy rather than crystal clear.

To apply the clip you need to pull apart the two ends (pulling on the beads makes this less fiddly) and trap your clitoris between them, then slide it down to find your desired tightness. Using lube makes the process more comfortable.

I tried using this clip both while already very aroused and from a cold start but struggled to get it to actually stay in position or be comfortable. I think this is to do with my anatomy rather than the actual product. In the image on the packaging, the model is shown wearing the clip over both her clitoris and very full inner labia which doesn’t work for me at all. While I have quite a large clitoral hood (which I thought would be ideal), my inner labia are way smaller than I thought they were and there just isn’t enough flesh there to hold the clamp in position. I had to use a little bit of lube to get it on in the first place (Sliquid Organics Natural Gel), but that coupled with my anatomy not being ‘right’, just made conditions even less conducive to getting it to stay in position. It will stay round just my clit if I lie perfectly still with my legs apart (woo), but if I close my legs or try to gently use a vibe then it just slips off.

The actual sensation of wearing the clip didn’t do anything for me either. It wasn’t as uncomfortable as I imagined even when on as tightly as I could get it, but the most noticeable feeling was a bit of skin pinching as the lube started to dry up. I expected to feel an increase in sensitivity after taking it off (as I do with nipple clamps) which I guess I did, only this manifested itself as irritation rather than pleasure. I have an extremely sensitive vulva as it is, and it certainly did not approve of all the fiddling around I did trying to get this thing to work!

Unfortunately reviewing this product has just cemented my feeling that clitoral clips, clamps or whatever else you’d want to call them are just not for me. I lack the fleshy inner labia necessary to really make this work and my clit doesn’t particularly care for the sensation anyway. I tried to like it, but this sort of play really isn’t for me.

I love the idea of clit jewelry like this (mostly for the aesthetic) but after reading this review I worry I wouldn’t be able to use them. My labia minora aren’t very fleshy, either. It’s a shame.
I will probably try a decorative clitoral clamp in the future, but I’ll be keeping your review in mind when I make my purchase. Particularly for something like this,, the quality and look of the materials is really important.

I agree, aesthetics are really important with these products – I’d like this so much more if it were polished stainless steel and the bead was glass/crystal.
